【Hello Taiwan! The Mandarin 101 APP brings the world closer to learning Mandarin Chinese.】
This article introduces the establishment and objectives of the "Taiwan Mandarin Educational Resources Center." The center was commissioned by the Taiwan Assessment and Evaluation Association under the Ministry of Education's auspices to assist in formulating Mandarin language education-related strategies and systems and to integrate Mandarin language educational resources in response to the global surge in Mandarin language learning.
The "Taiwan Mandarin Educational Resources Center" actively promotes resource integration by bringing together Taiwan's Mandarin language specialized departments, Mandarin language centers, and private professional organizations. It plays a pivotal role as a platform, incorporating innovative thinking and leveraging the strengths of Mandarin language education in Taiwan to showcase Taiwan's excellence on the international stage and lead Taiwan towards global prominence.
The article specifically introduces the online Mandarin language teaching material "Mandarin 101," designed for short-term visitors to Taiwan. Since its launch in May 2018, the material has received high praise from domestic and international students and teachers, with over 100,000 instances of online learning applications. To cater to the prevalence of smart mobile devices, the center launched the "Mandarin 101" App (Huayu101) with offline support in 2021, enabling Mandarin learners worldwide to study the language in 12 real-life scenarios anytime and anywhere.
"Mandarin 101" carefully selects spoken sentences that meet the general public's learning needs, covering 12 basic life scenarios, from greetings and making friends to tourism, business, transportation, accommodation, shopping, reservations, emergencies, and medical assistance. With over a hundred practical dialogues, the material features voice recordings by Taiwan Mandarin language teachers, demonstrating replaceable words and phrases in useful sentences, allowing learners to freely choose vocabulary that suits their needs for repeated practice. Additionally, the material is accompanied by adorable and relevant illustrations, making the learning process more enjoyable. With audio and visual guidance, "Mandarin 101" becomes the optimal tool for users to learn Mandarin.
In addition to "Mandarin 101," the "Taiwan Mandarin Educational Resources Center's" "Study Mandarin in Taiwan" section offers a variety of free online Mandarin language learning courses, including "Start From Scratch," "Intermediate Chinese," "FLTA Story Book Series," and "Mandarin in 300 sentences." Mandarin language educators or individuals interested in learning Mandarin are welcome to search and participate in these courses online.
