【The Application of Value Chain in YunTech's Institutional Research: A Case Study of Industry-Academia Collaboration in Response to Aging Faculty.】

This article introduces the development and operation of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (referred to as YunTech) in the field of institutional research. YunTech has established the Institutional Research Center, which employs effective data collection, information analysis, and knowledge management as its developmental processes. The center aims to build institutional expertise and experience, serving as a platform for administrative intelligence and governance. Its role is to create and support various business units in making institutional decisions based on real-time information from the teaching environment. It provides scientifically-based decision-making reference options, forming the entire C2B2B2Me value chain.

However, YunTech also faces the challenge of an aging faculty, especially with the impending retirement of senior teachers, which will impact institutional governance. To address this issue, the article proposes specific measures for different age groups of faculty members. For young faculty members, encouragement measures are provided to attract and retain outstanding talents in industry-academia research, motivating them to actively engage in research cooperation. For mid-career faculty members, a deeper understanding of their involvement in industry-academia cooperation is sought to optimize resource allocation and research capacity. For senior faculty members, proactive efforts are needed to inject new blood by cultivating successors from mid-career faculty and establishing a faculty-industry community to sustain and enhance innovative research capabilities.

Ultimately, YunTech aims to use the operations of the Institutional Research Center to assist in reducing the reliance on traditional Mode 1 decision-making (based on experience or policy) in the current school administrative organization and promote the adoption of scientifically-based Mode 2 decision-making. It strives to foster a professional decision-making atmosphere, develop effective educational administration, address institutional governance issues, and have a positive impact on students and stakeholders in the university.
