【Cheng Shiu University – High-Quality Talent Cultivation Program for Five-Axis Composite Machining】

Cultivating expertise in five-axis technology and collaborating with industry to expand internationally

To align with the government's initiative to invest in youth employment and cultivate professional technical talent, Cheng Shiu University, with a subsidy of NT$95 million from the Department of Technological and Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education, has established Taiwan’s only “Five-Axis Machining Talent Cultivation Base.” This initiative focuses on six core strategic industries and brings together resources from National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, corporate entities, and the industrial sector to promote regional industry talent and technology development. The base integrates advanced CNC machine tools, aerospace and semiconductor precision machining and inspection equipment, creating a comprehensive hands-on training environment that serves as a hub for CNC precision machining applications, exchanges, and training.

 

The base consolidates the strengths of the “Engineering Research and Technology Center,” “CNC Machining Application Talent Demonstration Base,” and “Smart Automation Industry Elite Training Base,” forming an industry-academia collaboration platform. It develops practical training materials jointly with industry partners and adopts a “learning by doing” approach to train skilled personnel with competencies in advanced manufacturing and measurement technologies. Industry experts co-teach with academic instructors to enhance hands-on capabilities and strengthen students' employability, fulfilling the mission of “helping students find their future and employers find talent.” Cheng Shiu University also offers “on-site courses” to nearby partner universities during winter and summer breaks, extending its resources and expanding talent development.

 

The base supports companies such as United Orthopedic Corporation in adopting domestic machine tools and cutting technologies, building new production lines and training personnel. It also offers generous scholarships to encourage students to engage in smart manufacturing, addressing the challenges of declining birthrates and technical talent shortages in the industry. The trained workforce supports sectors including aerospace, semiconductors, medical devices, automotive, and sports equipment, helping bridge the gap between education and industrial needs.

 

Ultimately, through this five-axis machining industry-academia collaborative platform, the base provides technical consulting and high-level manufacturing solutions, linking domestic machine tool manufacturers with equipment demanders, deepening industry collaboration, and building a high-level application ecosystem. Project outcomes are transformed into patents and educational materials, ensuring sustainable development and achieving the “triple-win” goal for education, industry, and students.
